Moore Cottage

The House is on a 3.5 acre parcel on West side of Middle Point and overlooks Thumb and Deep Bottom Coves where they join the main body of Tisbury Great Pond. This area is a globally-rare, sand plain, grassland and heath which
extends South to barrier beach and Ocean.

The property includes a beach & swimming area on the Pond, where one can pull up and store canoes, kayaks and small sail boats (Sunfish, Lasers). A canoe is available for exploring the pond and paddling to the barrier beach along the South side of the pond. Sail boats and kayaks can be rented from Winds Up
on the Beach Road in Vineyard Haven.

The 1st Floor of the House is an open area which includes Living, Dining
and a fully-equipped Kitchen. There are small outside decks, and an
outdoor shower with a view of the pond. The 2nd Floor has four small bedrooms
(two with a double bed and two with two single beds) and a Bath.

The House has views to the Southwest over the pond and spectacular sunsets. The inland, shore and water birds are plentiful and varied.

There is no electricity in this section of Middle Point.
The House has a propane refrigerator/freezer, water heater & range, all of which have pilot lights and need little or no attention. There are propane lamps, which you light with a match, located in the Kitchen, Living/Dining, the four Bedrooms and Bath.

Water is pumped from the well to a tank above the tub in the Bath, and it has a gasoline-powered pump, and is filled once or twice a day, depending on the number of occupants and their water use.There is also no telephone, but in case of emergencies, there are telephones at the houses next door, and cell phones work in this location.

Because of its remote and beautiful location and the absence of noise-producing and distracting appliances, radios, television sets, and telephones, there are only the sounds of nature: wind, rustling leaves, distant surf, birds, and occasionally the rain on the roof. This is a dramatic change from most of our daily lives, and truly restful.
